They really need to remove the Senate rules that let one moron hold up the entire process. This is just the latest example. Last month Senator Shelby did something along the same lines, holding nominations of 70 Obama appointees hostage--not because he opposed them, but because he wanted more pork spending for his home state of Alabama.

None of this stuff is in the constitution--the Senate just has a lot of very old, very stupid rules. They should scrap all the obstructionist tools, including the filibuster, and start getting things done.

Completely agree.

That being said, I wish he was still using those rules because I completely agree with him. Why can't the fatcats do their damn job and fund something that they can all agree on before spending for it?

The point he brought up was very good in my opinion yet no one debated it, it simply became "Bunning hates America's unemployed" "The Senate rules are the retarded" and "This is national emergency!! Nothing should stop this (forgetting that finding funding != stopping it)."

I agree that it's probably time that they start including economic stimulus within pay-go. I can see why they wouldn't the first time--the stimulus was considered an emergency measure, and finding cuts takes time--but they all knew this unemployment extension was coming.

Yes, let's make it easier for rich elitists to spend our money.

or let's let the publicly elected representatives who are a collective majority do their fucking jobs without some piss-head in the minority acting like a two year old.

I thought it was the Democrats that were spineless jelly-fish. I can't belive no other Republicans stood by him. I agree with Atticus that its wrong for one man to be able to stop legislation like he did, but I think the sadder story is that no one stood by the only person that was making sense with regards to the real issue before congress.
