I wake up morning, go to the site, and see "Justin Biever vs. Prairie Dog Viral Video" is the headline... unbelievable.

http://www.cnn.com/video/#/video/tech/2010/05/10/levs.justin.bieber.prairie.dog.cnn?hpt=C2

I mean, even if its a slow news day.... give me some worthless local public interest story or some other bullshit.

NPR.org, ywia, CNN is worthless.

I do the the times > bbc > economist > NPR > local paper > Drudge every morning. Used to do the WSJ, but meh...

Speaking of the economist, Mathew Bishop had an excellent Charlie Rose interview for anyone interested. Touched on the notion of 'too-big-to-fail' banks being required to have living wills to cover their potential bankruptcy in advance. Not sure how practical, but interesting. He snuffs my Volker Rule support too.

I watched the Rose interivew with Bishop last night, online. Apparently the Economist's circulation is up (to 800k in the US) while Newsweek and Time are flailing. The content in the interview was great, like you said. Rose's "Brain" series has been an unexpected find as well.

Local media is underrated; national media is not going to cover your city's budget, schools, crime, and the like.

The Brain series is excellent (especially for the below-lay peeps like myself). The section on addiction was particularly interesting. I have no idea how Rose can be - or at the very least, appear to be - knowledgeable on such a broad range of issues. One of the last enclaves of intelligent television.

I subscribe to the local paper as a purely philanthropic act, even though I only read it online.

EDIT: good for the economist too.

Rose is a Duke AB + JD grad with incredible connections, oweing to the fact he married well. His wife is the definition of a connected socialite.

The top story today was about an admitted illegal alien that's being deported and how she has garnished the support of the community (neglecting to mention that probably over 75% of legal Americans would like to see her deported ASAP).

For the 2000's Fox News was a ridiculous joke of partisan dribble. CNN is starting really balance things out.

The current headline: "Gays in military a religious threat?" Not only is it a stupid topic, but the headline doesn't even make sense.

God hates gays. So if gays are in the military, God will hate the military. We will lose the holy battle in the Middle East.

(You're a moron if you can't catch the sarcasm.)

Someone at the site has a hard-on for Angelina Jolie. The front page still talks about this damn movie: "Who's seeing 'Salt' this weekend?"
