Speaking of the economist, Mathew Bishop had an excellent Charlie Rose interview for anyone interested. Touched on the notion of 'too-big-to-fail' banks being required to have living wills to cover their potential bankruptcy in advance. Not sure how practical, but interesting. He snuffs my Volker Rule support too. |

Apparently the Economist's circulation is up (to 800k in the US) while Newsweek and Time are flailing. The content in the interview was great, like you said. Rose's "Brain" series has been an unexpected find as well.
Local media is underrated; national media is not going to cover your city's budget, schools, crime, and the like. |

The section on addiction was particularly interesting. I have no idea how Rose can be - or at the very least, appear to be - knowledgeable on such a broad range of issues. One of the last enclaves of intelligent television.
I subscribe to the local paper as a purely philanthropic act, even though I only read it online.
